ABSTRACT
Development in the world today takes different dimensions but serious emphasis is place on the role of SMEs in improving the income and well-being of people. This study empirically assessed the contributions of small and medium scale enterprises to employment creation among households in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi state. The objective was analysed using one-way ANOVA. The finding of the study shows that the presence of SMEs in the area contributes to increase in kiosk, increase in white- and blue-collar jobs, decrease in the number of applicants and increase in the number of bankers in Ajaokuta local government area of Kogi state. The study therefore recommends that fund should be made available at low interest rate to encourage the establishment and growth of SMEs in order to reduce massive youth unemployment in the country.
