ABSTRACT
Chronic hyperglycemia triggered by diabetes mellitus is a determining factor in the progression of diabetic nephropathy, a leading cause of chronic kidney disease. This article reviews the biochemical and physiological mechanisms through which hyperglycemia contributes to renal damage, focusing on studies published between 2021 and 2024.
